The Roane County Board of Education approved a five-year strategic plan at its November meeting.
It will serve as a blueprint for the school system over the next five years.
The goals of the strategic plan align with the goals of Director of Schools Gary Aytes’ performance contract.
• Goal 1: Roane County will provide a high quality instructional program for all students.
• Goal 2: Roane County will provide safe and secure facilities.
• Goal 3: Roane County will secure the highest quality teachers and administrators possible.
• Goal 4: Roane County will actively encourage strong parent and community involvement in all schools.
The strategic plan list objectives, strategies and measures for each goal.
For example, one of the strategies for Goal 4 is to employ a part-time parent involvement coordinator.
“I think these are reasonable and will make us a much better system if we accomplish all these,” Aytes said.
Aytes said the school system worked on the plan with community and business leaders, teachers, administrators and parents.
“They contributed time, ideas, suggestions and support to the development of the objectives and strategies needed to achieve the goals,” Aytes wrote.
