The 2013 Dixie Youth season came to an end for the Rockwood A All-Stars Monday evening, but the season ended on a high note as the Tigers knocked off Tellico Plains, 19-11, in the District 8 A Tournament at Tellico Plains.
Rockwood started strong, as after holding the Bears scoreless in the top of the first inning, Sailor Presley, Preston Schisler, Tristyn Butler, Joseph Summers, Peyton Witter, Keegan Butler, Ezekiel Lower, Jadon McCallie and Evan Lankford a reached safely in the bottom of the frame. Those nine runners led to the Tigers scoring the maximum of seven runs.
Both teams scored three runs in the second inning, leaving the Tigers on top, 10-3.
Ayden Moore, Schisler and Joseph Summers scored Rockwood’s runs in the second inning.
Rockwood opened things up by outscoring the Bears 6-1 in the third inning to make the score 16-4 with three innings left to play.
Brody Summers, McCallie, Lankford, Presley, Schisler, Tristyn Butler, Joseph Summers, Witter and Keegan Butler all reached safely in the third inning for the Tigers.
The only hiccup for Rockwood on the day came in the fourth inning when the Bears won the frame 7-0 to pull within 16-9.
The Bears scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it 16-11, but the Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the frame to end the game early at 19-11. Presley, Schisler and Tristyn Butler scored Rockwood’s runs in the fifth inning.
Presley (3-4, 3 runs), Schisler (4-4, 4 runs), Tristyn Butler (4-4, 3 runs), Joseph Summers (4-4, 3 runs), Witter (2-3, 1 run), Keegan Butler (3-3, 1 run), McCallie (2-3) and Lankford (3-3, 1 run) all had multiple hits on the day for Rockwood.
