Kingston City Council members are considering STEPs to improve the city’s sewer service.
STEP — or Septic Tank Effluent Pumping — is a means of sewage treatment whereby part of the waste from individual homes or businesses is dumped into a septic tank, and then pumped to a centralized processing plant, rather than a leach field.
Mike Jolly, head of the city water department, reported at the Oct. 1 council work session that it might be cost effective for the city to begin using such systems again.
