Sevier Drive to have Sept. 7 homecoming

Elder John Tucker of Avondale Church of Christ, Chattanooga, will deliver the homecoming message at Sevier

Drive Church of Christ, Harriman.

The service begins at 3 p.m. Sept. 7 in the church at 1014 Sevier Drive.

“Are You Watchful?” from Mark 13:33-37 is this year’s theme.

Dinner will be served after the evening worship service.

Tucker was born and raised in Chattanooga.

He graduated from Chattanooga City High in 1974 and attended Chattanooga State Technical Community College as a retail management major.

Tucker married the former Debbie Shibley on April 30, 1977.

They have two daughters, Stacey, 31, and Rachel, 29.

The Tuckers also have an 8-year-old grandson, Curtis “C.J.” Carter Jr.

Tucker has been preaching for over 30 years.

He spent 22 years at the Rockford congregation in Pikeville.

He has conducted gospel meetings at Aldhouse Church of Christ in Bridgeport, Ala., and Callahan Street Church of Christ in Rome, Ga.

He has also taught classes in Adairsville, Ga., as well as for the Tennessee Youth Conference and the Tennessee Singles Conference when it was hosted in Chattanooga.

Tucker was ordained as an elder on Sept. 12, 2004.

He has been a member of Avondale Church of Christ since he was added to the church in June 1980.

He also preaches at least once a month at Avondale.

Tucker is a 2012 graduate of Chattanooga School for Preaching and Biblical Studies.
