Roane County is moving forward with plans to expand sewer service in the Midtown area.
Earlier this month the County Commission voted to move $70,000 out of the wastewater treatment fund and into a capital projects fund for the expansion project.
“What we’re doing here is just transferring out $70,000 from operations to put it in capital, so we can capture all our capital cost in one place,” County Executive Ron Woody explained.
The $70,000 is not close to what is needed for the entire project, but he said the money will pay for some engineering work.
Covenant Health is planning to build a new state-of-the-art hospital in Midtown. The area is also expected to be home to a new physicians plaza.
Woody said no sewer expansion had been planned for Midtown, despite the two major projects. The expansion has now become a priority of his administration. He said the sewer expansion is critical to the county’s future because of the expected growth in Midtown.
