Some epic voyages start out from Watts Bar Lake

For some boaters, Watts Barr Lake is a popular weekend destination.

For others, it can be a means to get somewhere else.

Take Jim McKay of Ten Mile. He has launched his sailboat in Watts Bar and traveled all the way to Mobile Bay, Ala., on the Gulf of Mexico.

McKay and his wife,  Cyndi, have also completed a long voyage on a route boaters know as the Great Loop.
