South Harriman alumni honor vets

-A A +A

The South Harriman Schools Alumni and Friends Organization continues its community involvement with the recent installation of a permanent flag pole complete with a new U.S. flag and a banner depicting the former county school’s “Pirate” logo with the declaration “The Spirit Lives On.”

The Alumni paired the flags with a “Thanks Veterans” sign saluting all veterans for their service and sacrifice during the week around Veterans Day.

The permanent memorial plaques, encased in original bricks from the razed South Harriman High School building that stood near the site, serve as a foundation for floral displays (red, white and blue for all veterans and orange and white for South Harriman veterans).

This 600-plus member alumni group represents the former South Harriman school and several of the other area schools which furnished students to the high school.

The last class graduated in 1963.

Meeting on a monthly basis in Bowers Elementary School, the group remains involved with both that school and the community.
