Firefighters with South Roane County Volunteer Fire Department assume what Fire Chief Sam Wolfe called “a defense operation” as they battle a house fire at 171 Laurel Bluff Road on Tuesday evening. No one was home when the fire began, and a first responder was able to rescue the family dog. In the midst of the home being fully engulfed in flames, firefighters also were able to move the family’s van away from the side of the house to prevent further damage. “I have no idea what started it or how it spread so fast,” Wolfe said. The ordeal lasted two hours, and 10,000 gallons of water was used. Midtown Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene for mutual aid.
