State Rep. Julia Hurley has a new career path besides public service.

She’s now a customer service representative at Lenoir City Utility Board.

“It’s just a part-time job. It is right down the road from my house,” said Hurley, who also has a home in Harriman with fiancé Chris Ahler.

She began working a few weeks ago.

“I guess about two Mondays ago; it has been about two weeks,” Hurley said Thursday.

Hurley explained that she earns a bit more than $19,000 a year as a state representative, and this is just another means of income. She also owns JaCy Company Consulting.

“I’m just trying to learn as much as possible to be an effective leader for my district,” Hurley said about her new post.

She said it is nice to see more about how things work at the local level.
