The county’s latest jail inspection didn’t go any better than the one that occurred in May.
Roane County Sheriff Jack Stockton said the jail inspector recommended the jail, open less than four years, be decertified.
Stockton said the reason cited by the jail inspector last week was overcrowding.
“There wasn’t anything we could do to stop it,” he said. “It is disappointing, but hopefully it opens the eyes of the county commission. They’re going to have to come up with a plan of action to do something.”
The remedies could be costly.
“We hope the sheriff’s liaison committee will recommend to the full commission to do some type of workhouse or addition to the existing jail in the near future,” Stockton said.
