Staying cool at city pools

Swimming is one of the best ways to beat the heat in the summer time and both the Rockwood and Kingston Community Center swimming pools offer a safe, fun and inexpensive way to swim this summer.

Both pools offer public swim times in the afternoon as well as exercise classes and swimming lessons for the public.

The Kingston Community Center pool is open seven days a week with open pool for the public on Monday through Friday from 1-4:30 p.m. Admission for public swim is $2.50.

Saturdays and Sundays as well as Mondays through Friday from 8-10 p.m. are reserved for pool parties. Pool parties last for two hours and range from $80 to $120, depending on the number of swimmers.

Kingston offers four sessions of swimming lessons. The first started June 6 and runs through June 17; the next session runs June 20-30; Session three is July 5-14 and the final session id July 18-28. Lesson times range from 11 a.m. in the morning and then 5, 6 and 7 p.m. in the evening.

Lessons are $40 for each session and are based on age and ability. 

Water exercise and short lap swim for ages 18 and over is Monday-Thursday from 12-12:45 p.m. and there is no charge for water exercise and lap swim.

The Kingston Community Center pool also offers season passes for $60 (single) or $120 (family up to six in same household). Season pool passes are available at a 10 percent discount if purchased by Friday, June 10.

Senior citizens age 60 and older are admitted free.

The schedule for the Rockwood Community Center pool is similar to that at Kingston.

The Rockwood pool has open swim seven days a week from 1-5 p.m. and the cost for open swim is $1.50.

The Rockwood pool also offers two-hour swimming parties for $65. The pool is open for pool parties Monday thru Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 6-8 p.m.

Swimming lessons are also offered at the Rockwood pool.

The Rockwood pool will also offer swimming lessons  from 10-11 a.m. or 11 a.m.-noon on June 13-24 for session one and June 27-July 2 for session two.

Lessons are $25 for each session.

The Rockwood pool also offers water aerobics on Mondays thru Friday from 5:15-6:15 p.m. The is no charge for water aerobics.

The Rockwood Community Center pool also offers season passes for $50 (single) or $100 (family).
