Roane County Chamber of Commerce has taken its annual Shop Roane First program to the next level.
The Chamber’s board of directors has adopted a new promotional activity to support — as a whole and individually — a dedicated “shop local day” this holiday season to remind consumers that it helps the county, the Chamber and area businesses to Shop Roane First.
The Chamber chose Dec. 18 as Roane County’s Super Saturday and is asking everyone in the county to commit to spending at least $50 at a Chamber member’s business on that day.
This helps those businesses be more successful and the county as a whole because, when residents spend local, nearly half of the money spent in a locally owned business stays in Roane County.
“In fact, that money goes toward ensuring lower taxes from our residents, so it just makes sense,” said Leslie Henderson, president and CEO of The Roane Alliance.
Super Saturday is also an opportunity for Chamber businesses to offer special incentives for added value for that last Christmas shopping push. Many Chamber businesses are already doing this, and “we encourage others to take advantage of this perfect opportunity,” said Darrell Williams, The Alliance’s director of business development.
“We are sure there are more special offerings and plan to spread the word about these to our Chamber members in our weekly e-newsletter,” he added, “so Chamber members will want to make sure they are on our e-mail list.”
Chamber members not currently receiving the e-newsletter may contact the Chamber at 376-5572 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
An annual Shop Roane First program for the holidays is the Chamber Shopping Spree.
A prize of $500 is drawn for one winner during The Roane Alliance’s Christmas open house on Dec. 17.
The public may enter the contest by visiting any of the participating Chamber businesses by Dec. 15 and complete an entry form.
