According to the National Institute of Mental Health, suicide is the third leading cause of death for those aged 15 to 25. The No. 1 cause for suicide is untreated depression.

People die by suicide because they are in intense pain and want their pain to stop. Approximately 6.9 per 100,000 teens die by suicide each year in the United States. It is estimated one of every 25 teens who attempts suicide dies.
