U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, whose district includes Roane County, voted against the deal legislators reached to stave off the fiscal cliff.
“As I have long said, we have a spending problem, not a revenue problem,” the Republican said in a prepared statement. “The bill sent back to the House not only allowed taxes to increase but increased spending by $330 billion. It was simply something I could not support.”
The fiscal cliff was a series of tax increases and spending cuts set to take effect this month.
