Tennis Tigers ease past Harriman

The Rockwood boys and girls tennis teams picked up a pair of close victories over Harriman last week in a match played at Roane State. 

The Tigers and Lady Tigers both won by a score of 5-4.

On the boys side, Rockwood won four of the six matches played. 

Rockwood’s Derrick Lawson defeated Harriman’s Robby McCartt, 8-0, while Rockwood’s Matheus Ferreira defeated Isaac Evans, 8-2. Lawson and Ferreira also defeated McCartt and Evans in doubles, 8-4.

Rockwood’s remaining singles wins came as Jordan Williams defeated Evan Ford, 8-3, and Ryan Hamby beat Corey Burgess, 8-2.

Harriman’s Matt Snow defeated Jesse Scarbrough, 9-8, while the Blue Devils won the remaining singles match with a forfeit.

Harriman picked up two wins in doubles. One was via forfeit while the other came when Randy Lunsford and Goldston beat Hamby and Marcus Thompson, 8-6.

On the girls side, Rockwood won two of the five matches played in singles.

Rockwood’s victories came as Callie Crabtree defeated Ashante Hall, 8-1, and Kesney Lemons beat Haleigh Hallcox, 8-3.

Harriman’s wins came with Kristen Delozier beating Savannah Grant, 8-0, Eden Marsalis beating Rebecca Byers, 8-2, and Jill Goldston beating Tiffany LaRue, 8-4.

Rockwood also won a match in singles thanks to a forfeit. 

In doubles, Harriman’s Delozier and Marsalis beat Grant and Byers, 8-1, while Rockwood’s LaRue and Crabtree beat Goldston and Hallcox, 8-2. 

 Rockwood won the deciding third match when Harriman forfeited.
