MONDAY, NOV. 7

• Roane County Executive Ron Woody is accepting nominations through this date for the fourth annual Governor’s Volunteer Stars awards in Roane County. Youth and adult volunteer awards will be presented based on the community’s need of the volunteer service performed, initiative taken to perform the service, creativity used to solve a community problem and impact of the volunteer service on the community. WEDNESDAY, NOV. 9

• Aging With Grace, an educational discussion at 11:30 a.m. in Bethel Presbyterian Church at 203 S. Kentucky St., Kingston, will focus on home health, hospice and end-of-life issues. Representatives from area agencies will be on hand to explain these benefits. The sessions are a cooperative effort between Mid-East Community Action Agency’s senior services and the church. Call Mid-East at 354-0450, Ext. 228, to register and reserve a lunch.

• Harriman Street and Sanitation Department will pick up leaves this week in the downtown area. Bagged leaves will be picked up more quickly.

 

THURSDAY, NOV. 17

• Citizens for Animal Rights and Education will have a spay/neuter day at Meigs County Fairgrounds, Decatur. Appointments are required and may be made by calling 423-334-9451; cost is $50 for dogs, $40 for cats. Rabies shots are $12 unless proof of current vaccine is provided. Other services will be available.
