TUESDAY, FEB. 12
• Volunteers with AARP Tax-Aide will be available to offer free assistance with income-tax filing from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. in Kingston Community Center. Volunteers can e-file Form 1040 tax forms and basic schedules for free. Taxpayers should bring W-2 and all 1099 forms; Social Security cards and photo identification for themselves and their dependents; a copy of last year’s income-tax return; end-of-the-year Social Security statement, Form SSA-1099; a record of tuition and fees paid to attend college, and receipts for course-related books, supplies and equipment; documentation of energy-efficient home improvements; and a blank check to verify bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit of refunds.

MONDAY, FEB. 18
• A health fair will be in Luminary United Methodist Church at 3401 River Road, Ten Mile, from 8 a.m. to noon for most services. It will provide access to mammograms by appointment from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for both uninsured and insured women ages 40 and older; call 305-9753 to schedule an appointment. Free bone density screening will be available with preregistration at 376-7040. Free comprehensive blood tests will be available for up to 100 people; 12-hour  fasting (no food or drinks except water and black tea/coffee) is recommended. Other free medical tests include blood pressure readings; ear, nose and throat screening; vision screening; colon cancer screening; skin cancer screening; stroke screening; and possibly foot and ankle screening. Several area agencies and health-related organizations will share information on services available. Free refreshments will be available. Call 376-7040 for details.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 27
• A free weekly chronic disease self-management program will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. each Wednesday through April 3 in Roane County Health Department at 1362 N. Gateway Ave., Rockwood. The six-week workshop by the health department and Mid-East Community Action Agency senior services is for anyone dealing with a chronic health concern, including but not limited to heart disease, cancer, depression, asthma, COPD, chronic pain or diabetes.  Health snacks are provided.   Call Mid-East senior services at 354-0450, Ext. 228, to register or for details.
