Tigers, Devils split in tennis action

 The Harriman boys and Rockwood girls picked up tennis wins Tuesday afternoon in a match played at Roane State.


The Tigers and Blue Devils split two matches in doubles, but Harriman took 4-of-5 in singles to take home a 5-2 victory.

Two of the matches in singles were extremely close as Harriman’s Cody Palko beat Carson McCullough while Harriman’s Taylor Johnson beat Josh Spurling by identical 9-7 scores.

Harriman’s other two wins in singles came as Mason Davis defeated Tyler Wicks, and Corey Burgess knocked off Caleb West.

Rockwood’s win in singles came as Ryan Hamby beat Matt Snow.

In doubles, Harriman’s duo of Snow and Burgess beat Hamby and West while the Tiger duo of Wicks and Spurling picked up a win over Palko and Johnson.


Rockwood won all six matches in singles and 2-of-3 in doubles to take an impressive 8-1 team victory.

In singles, Alex Patterson, Shelley Edwards, Blayke Kelly, Allison Frogg, Christina Long and Madison Mioduski picked up wins with Amber Frost, Hayle Moore, Gabby Kilgore, Charity Griffis and Autumn Davis dropping matches for the Lady Devils.

In doubles, Rockwood’s duo of Allyson Holloway and Brittany Long were victorious as were Stephanie Long and Tristen Walls.

Harriman’s win in doubles came with Kilgore and Griffis beating Jessica Shadden and Kimberlyn Hendrix.
