Tigers knock off Stone Memorial, 7-4

It may not have been the most glamorous win, but the Rockwood Tigers survived a scare from the Stone Memorial Panthers to take a 7-4 win Friday evening at Rockwood’s Mike “Brillo” Miller Sports Complex. 

Rockwood got things started in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run triple off the bat of Lucas Jolley triple then Jolley stole home to give the Tigers an early 3-0 lead. 

Stone Memorial's Michael Reyes stole home to make the score 3-1 in the top of the second, but the Tigers took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the frame on a wild pitch that resulted in Riley Clem coming home. 

The Panthers got within 4-3 on a pair of solo homers by Justin Waldo and Brandon Cole in the top of the third inning and tied the game in the top of the fifth on a solo jack by Cole. 

But the Tigers responded with Collin Smith touching them all with a two-run homer to make the score 6-4. 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, another run came home on a wild pitch for the Tigers to push the eventual final margin to 7-4. 

Collin Smith (3-3, 1 HR, 2 RBIs) led all hitters for Rockwood while Riley Clem (4 1/3 innings, 4 Ks, 2 walks, 5 hits, 1 ER) got the win for the Tigers. 

Stone Memorial was led by Cole (2-4, 2 HR's, 2 RBIs) and Cameron Reed (2-3, 1 2B). 

Reed (CG, 9 Ks, 2 walks, 6 hits, 4 ER) was tallied with the loss.

 Rockwood is set to host Hiram, Ga. on Thursday and Friday.
