The Rockwood Tigers and Lady Tigers tennis teams hosted Stone Memorial Tuesday afternoon at Roane State’s tennis courts, but playing on their home court didn’t help as the Panthers and Lady Panthers each picked up 7-2 victories.

In boys action, Rockwood ran into a tough squad from Cumberland County as Stone Memorial won each of the seven matches that were actually played. Five of those matches came in singles with the remaining two matches taking place in doubles.

In singles, Ryan Hamby, Arin Deardorff, Dalton Kirkland, Carson McCullough and Tyler Wicks all dropped matches for the Tigers. Rockwood’s R.J. Morlock won his match via forfeit.

In doubles, Hamby and Deardorff were defeated, as were Kirkland and Morlock. McCullough and Wicks won after Stone Memorial failed to have a team.

The results were similar in girls action as Stone Memorial won five of the six matches played in singles along with taking two of three in doubles.

Blayke Kelley picked up Rockwood’s win in single with an 8-5 victory over Savannah Brown.

In doubles, the duo of Kristen Jolley and Zoe Hill picked up an 8-3 victory for the Lady Tigers as they knocked off Brown and Abbie Wightman.

Alex Patterson, Shelley Edwards and Allison Frogg also participated for Rockwood on the day.

On Wednesday, Rockwood returned to action and swept Loudon. Rockwood’s boys won 6-3 while the Lady Tigers picked up an 8-1 victory.

The boys contest was limited to only three matches as Loudon had just two players, Dylan Shanks and Steven Davis. Shanks and Davis won their singles matches then combined for a victory in doubles.

Rockwood’s six wins all came via forfeit. The Tigers won four matches in singles and two in doubles.

Loudon had a full team in girls, but were dominated by Rockwood.

The Lady Tigers won five of six matches in singles with Patterson winning 8-4, Kelley winning 8-2, Edwards winning 8-4, Frogg winning 8-4, and Raven Latham winning 8-0

Jessica Shadden suffered an 8-5 setback.

In doubles, it was Patterson and Kelley winning 8-5, Edwards and Frogg winning 8-1, while the duo of Shadden and Allyson Holloway picked up an 8-5 victory.
