The Rockwood Tigers swept the Oakdale Eagles on Thursday night spoiling Senior Night for the Eagles.

Boys Game

The Tigers used a stifling defense to shut down the explosive Eagles and gain revenge from an early season loss. The Tigers held on for a 56-46 win last Thursday evening at Fred Snow Gymnasium.

The Tigers opened up a 10-5 lead early on as Malcolm Springs had his way in the paint scoring six first quarter points for the Tigers. Eagles freshman Maverick Smith brought his team back with seven points in the opening quarter to tie the game at 14 before Hunter Grant buried a 3-pointer to give the Tigers a 17-14 lead after one quarter.

Grant finished with seven points in the opening frame.

The Eagles outscored the Tigers 7-4 to open the second quarter as Smith scored four points and Ben Everett drilled a 3-pointer to tie the score at 21 with 4:19 left in the first half.

Rockwood’s Case Miller led a 7-0 run down the stretch of the first half to give the Tigers a 29-24 cushion at the break.

The Tigers and Eagles battled back and forth as Miller scored four points in the third quarter for the Tigers and Smith answered for the Eagles, but Tigers led 37-33 late in the third quarter when Jarrod Neerman and Grant scored the last four points and Rockwood led 41-33 after three quarters.

The Eagles fought back with a 5-0 spurt to start the fourth quarter as Brady Bingham and Matt Abernathy both knocked down jumpers to pull the Eagles within three points but that was as close as they would get. Miller and Grant made crucial free throws down the stretch to pull out a 56-46 win for the Tigers.

The second quarter was the undoing for the Lady Eagles. After Lady Eagle Ellen Everett scored an old fashioned 3-point play to tie the score at 15 the Lady Tigers took control with a 14-3 run led by Chelsea Cheek and McKenzie Lee as they combined for nine points during the spurt that gave the Lady Tigers a 29-21 halftime advantage.

Lee scored the first four points of the second half to give the Lady Tigers their biggest lead of the night at 33-21 with 6:21 left in the third quarter. The Lady Eagles would answer with a 8-2 run as senior Katelyn Hill scored four points to help the Lady Eagles trim the lead to 37-29 after three quarters.
