If the Rockwood Tigers were looking to build some momentum heading into this weeks’s District 3-A Tournament, they did so on Thursday by routing Washburn in a doubleheader.
The Tigers took game one, 11-0, and followed that with a 16-0 victory in game two of the evening.
Rockwood will look to keep up their hot play in this week’s District 3-A Tournament at Grace Christian.
A big second inning was the key to victory as the Tigers scored eight of their 11 runs in the second inning of play.
Christian Domon, Hunter Grant, Riley Clem, Tavin Napier, Hayden Freels, Jared Breazeale, Hunter Robbins and Matt Cofer scored the runs in the inning with a two-run single from Jordan Breazeale being the big hit of the frame.
Rockwood’s first three runs of the contest came in the first inning. A pitch hit Clem and he scored on a triple from Napier. Napier scored on a passed ball then Jared Breazeale capped the scoring with a home run to left.
Napier (2-2, 1 3B, 2 RBIs, 2 runs) and Jared Breazeale (1-2, 1 HR, 2 RBIs, 2 runs) led Rockwood on offense with Clem (CG, 1 hit, 3 Ks) earning the win on the mound.
The second inning was big again in game two as 11 Tigers crossed the plate.
Grant and Napier crossed the plate twice in the frame while Clem, Jared Breazeale, Robbins, Jordan Breazeale, Cofer, Domon and Freels scored one. Freels and Jared Breazeale each had three-run triples in the frame.
Rockwood’s first three runs came in the top of the first inning when Grant, Freels and Jared Breazeale scored with Robbins and Cofer picking up RBIs.
Rockwood’s final two runs came home in the fourth inning. Tyler McGill and Joseph Denny scored the runs with Austin Lloyd and Justin Domon picking up RBIs.
Jared Breazeale (3-4, 1 3B, 4 RBIs, 2 runs) led the Tigers on offense while Jay Tilley (2 IP, 2 hits, 1 BB, 2 Ks) picked up the win on the mound.
Cofer and Caleb Wampler each pitched an inning of scoreless relief.
