While the weather is just starting to warm up in East Tennessee, the Rockwood Tigers offense has been red-hot at the start of the 2014 season.

Through nine games this season, the Tigers have an 8-1 record and are averaging 13.8 runs per game. A big reason for those runs is a .439 team batting average along with an aggressive approach on the base paths. The Tigers have stolen 44 bases in 2014 while being thrown out only three times.

Rockwood’s latest outburst came Friday when Jake Witter’s squad used 14 hits and nine stolen bases to knock off Sweetwater, 11-1.

Rockwood scored single runs in four of the seven innings played while a six-run sixth inning broke the game open.

Rockwood’s first run came in the top of the first inning as Hunter Grant singled and scored on a double from Dannon Grubb.

The Tigers scored again with a run in the top of the second inning. Justin Domon singled and scored on a single from Tyler McGill.

Grubb got Rockwood’s half of the third inning started with a bang when he homered to center field. Christian Domon followed with a single and he scored on a Justin Domon single to make the score 4-1.

The Tigers made it 5-1 with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Grubb walked and scored the run on a Christian Domon single.

Rockwood put the game away with a two-out rally in the top of the sixth inning.

With two outs and Daylen Domon on base, Grant drove in a run with a double then Jordan Breazeale and Grubb walked to load the bases. Christian Domon cleared the bases with a triple and then he scored on a single from Justin Domon that made the score 10-1.

Rockwood scored one more run in the seventh inning when Will Warner hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Daylon Domon.

Grant (2-3, 2B, 1 RBI, 2 runs, 2 SBs), Grubb (2-2, 2B, HR, 2 RBIs, 3 runs), Christian Domon (3-4, 3B, 3 RBIs, 3 runs, 2 SBs), Justin Domon (3-4, 2 RBIs, 1 run) and Daylen Domon (2-3, 2 runs) all had multiple hits for Rockwood on the day.

Christian Domon picked up the win on the mound.

Rockwood closes this week with a game at Oliver Springs on Thursday before hosting the Bobcats on Friday.
