Tigers split with Bears

-A A +A
By Brody Jones

For more than three periods, the Rockwood Lady Tigers played well enough to beat the District 3-A leading Tellico Plains Lady Bears, but in the end, eight Tellico Plains three-point shots proved too much to overcome as the Lady Tigers lost a 64-60 squeaker Monday evening.

Rockwood started the game on a 9-3 surge, but the Lady Bears counteracted that with a 10-3 tilt of their own before the opening period came to a close with the score tied at 16-16.

Rockwood would take the lead in the second period and go into the locker room leading 27-25. Rockwood led by as many as six points in the third period until a 13-2 stretch to close the third period gave the Lady Bears a 41-36 lead.

Rockwood managed to tie the game at one point in the final period, but free throws down the stretch would give the Lady Bears the 64-60 win.

Rockwood had a 38-37 edge on the boards while Tellico Plains had an 8-7 advantage in team steals. Three-pointers, however, was where the Lady Bears had a clear advantage with an 8-4 tilt.

The Lady Bears were led by Jessi Parson (23 points, 10 boards, 5 three-pointers), Sarah McKinnon (16 points, 10 boards), and Kristian Moses (13 points, 5 boards, 5 assists). Brayden Garron (6 points) and Tori McMinn (6 boards) both played well in the win.
