Tigers take down Berean Christian

The Rockwood Tigers hosted the Berean Christian Eagles Tuesday night.  

Both teams fought hard, but in the end Berean Christian could not close the gap in either game.  The Lady Tigers cruised to a 49-15 win while the boys held on late to win by a final score of 53-42.

Rockwood hits the floor again Friday when they travel to Harriman.

Girls Game 

Rockwood won the tip and pushed early and often on their way to victory.

The Lady Tigers played good pressure defense and came up with some turnovers which led to several fast break points. 

Rockwood went into the second quarter leading by 21 points.  

The second period started out with Rockwood committing a quick foul which led to the Lady Eagles first points of the game. Rockwood continued to play sloppy throughout the period, but despite their sloppy play, the Lady Tigers went into half with a 31-4 lead.

Rockwood came out in the second half and played better basketball then what they played in the second quarter. The Lady Tigers also got some good minutes from their bench players and pushed the lead out to 44-11.  

The fourth quarter did not have much offense from either team as Rockwood only outscored the Lady Eagles 5-4, making the final score 49-15.

Cheyenne Thompson (11 points), Dara Cates (10 points) and Chelsea Cheek (9 points) led Rockwood in scoring while McKenzie Lee pulled down nine rebounds.

Boys Game

Berean Christian won the tip and committed a quick turnover which led to a Jared Breazeale three-pointer to open the game.  

Rockwood  then played good half-court defense making the Eagles knock down some tough jump shots. Rockwood was also a little slow on transition defense which allowed the Eagles to stay in striking distance at the end of the first quarter with Rockwood leading 17-13.  

The Tigers came out at the start of the second and played better transition defense. Both teams traded baskets until Riley Clem came on strong down the stretch of the second quarter.Rockwood led 29-24 at the end of the first half.

At the start of the third quarter, Hayden Freels worked the glass and came away with a good board and put-back on offense and a huge hustle play at the other end of the floor to spark the Tigers.  

Midway through the period, Case Miller jumped a pass for the steal and quick two points to push the lead to eight.  

Breazeale, Clem and Hunter Grant picked it up late in the third to extend the lead to 43-32.  

The Tigers’ guards really came on trying to put the Eagles away, pushed the lead to 15. Midway through the fourth period, the Eagles pressed and pressured the ball and caused Rockwood to make some bad turnovers.  The Eagles cut the lead to nine points but they couldn’t make a serious run. 

Breazeale led Rockwood on the night with 15 points, but did suffer an apparent knee injury near the end of the game. Clem was next in line with 13 while Freels pulled down seven rebounds.
