The Rockwood Tigers had just eight hits Friday evening against Oakdale, but Jake Witter’s squad took advantage of 12 walks and four hit batters in rolling to an 18-4 victory over the Eagles at the Mike “Brillo” Miller Sports Complex.
Rockwood scored first Friday as Tavin Napier tripled home a run and then scored himself in giving the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
Oakdale, however, answered with three runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead, but that lead wouldn’t last long as Rockwood scored two runs in the bottom of the frame to make the score 4-3.
Jordan Breazeale walked and a pitch hit Matt Cofer to start the inning then both runners scored on a Riley Clem single.
The Tigers started to pull away with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning. Hunter Robbins, Jordan Breazeale, Cofer, Domon, Hunter Grant, Clem and Jared Breazeale all scored in the inning as Rockwood’s lead ballooned to 11-3.
Cofer, Domon, Jared Breazeale and Napier all drive in runs in the inning.
Rockwood scored seven more runs in the fourth inning to make the score 18-3.
The inning started with three straight walks and a hit batter before Jared Breazeale and Napier ripped back-to-back two-run doubles. Three more walks and another hit batter followed as the Tigers grabbed a 15-run lead.
Oakdale scored their final run of the game in the top of the fifth inning, but couldn’t do enough damage to extend the game to seven innings.
Jared Breazeale (2-4, 1 2B, 3 RBIs, 2 runs) and Napier (3-4, 1 3B, 5 RBIs, 1 run) had multiple hits on the day for Rockwood while Clem (CG, 1 hit, 3 BBs, 2 Ks) picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers.
Landon Botkin picked up Oakdale’s only hit on the day and had two RBIs.
