Monday is the deadline to pay 2010 property taxes.

Roane County Trustee Wilma Eblen said people who pay after the deadline will be assessed a penalty of 1.5 percent.

That amount increases by 1.5 percent each month the taxes are late.

The Roane County Trustee’s Office is on the first floor of the courthouse in Kingston.

Eblen said the office will be open on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

People can also pay their taxes on-line at tennesseetrustee.com

Eblen’s office has been busy accepting payments as the deadline approaches.

“We’ve had them lined down the hall,” she said. “Yesterday (Tuesday) it was people, people, people.”
Monday could be another busy day.

“I’m expecting another line,” Eblen added. “Don’t know how long it will be, but I’m expecting one.”

Last year’s epic property reappraisal pushed everything back, so people had less time to pay their taxes. The Roane County Commission didn’t adopt a tax rate until October. Tax bills weren’t sent out until November.

In normal years, they would have gone out the first of October.
