Ruppe job-change decision postponed now until May 5

By Cindy Simpson

Sickness and death forced the adjournment of the Rockwood City Council’s regular meeting on Monday.

Rockwood City Councilman James Nuckols was called to his beloved father’s bedside that day.

Councilman Pete Wright was in the hospital for tests, and Councilwoman Jane Long had went to the hospital with what was reported to be a dangerously high fever.

At Rockwood City Attorney Greg Leffew’s recommendation, the council waited 15 minutes before adjourning for lack of a quorum.

The meeting was adjourned until 6 p.m. next Monday, May 5.

Items on the agenda will include a resolution appointing city recorder Becky Ruppe to municipal administrator with a raise of more than $15,000 to make her pay around $65,000.

Other agenda items include naming Hugh O’Dell public works director, a $5,000 raise for certified municipal finance officer Belinda Puckett, hiring Jason Kilby as a full-time firefighter, a new lease raising the rent for Sharon Rector Miller at Ratchet’s Bar & Grill at the Rockwood Municipal Golf Course and creating a new police officer position.
