Ken Laswell and Nancy Barnard Martin share a common denominator in their constant battle to maintain a healthy body weight.
Both are former truck drivers — a sedentary profession that often leads to obesity, diabetes and other health-related issues.
Laswell, from Spring City, spoke Tuesday at the weekly meeting of the TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) group at Luminary United Methodist Church in Ten Mile. At times overcome by emotion, he talked about his weight issues, which coincided two years ago with the diagnosis of a Stage 4 cancer at the base of his tongue.
