TVA mudslide forces Swan Pond evacuation

About a dozen homes were evacuated overnight after a dike collapsed, spilling a thick sludge of water and ash near the Kingston Steam Plant. Homes affected are in the area of Swan Pond Road and Swan Pond Circle.

According to TVA spokesman Gil Francis, the dike on an ash containment on the north side of the plant failed.

Frnacis noted that December rains had been double normal levels and that, with freezing and thawing, may have weakened the earthen dike.
