The Tennessee Valley League (TVL) of little league football begins regular season play this weekend with two games in Roane County.
Harriman will host Kingston the day after the same two high school foes begin the season. Rockwood hosts Oak Ridge Cardinal in opener for these two teams.
Oak Ridge Gray will have an open date this weekend.
Last Saturday the five TVL teams held their jamboree at Rockwood and Oak Ridge. Each contest lasted only two quarters.
In the first set of halves in Rockwood, Harriman took two out of three from the Rams. Harriman won the cricket game 22-8 and the hopper game 8-6 Rockwood came back to take the cutter contest 18-0.
That afternoon, Kingston took two of three from the Rams. Kingston won the cricket game 20-0 and eased to a 6-0 decision in the hopper game. The cutter game ended in a 0-0 tie after the game was halted after the first quarter because of lightening in the area.
In Oak Ridge, the two Oak Ridge teams met in the morning session with the Cardinals winning the cricket game 28-12 and the hopper game 6-0. The cutter game ended in a 0-0 tie.
The Oak Ridge peewees have only one team this year and they worked over Kingston 30-0 in a half.
That afternoon Oak Ridge Cardinal won three of four from South Clinton. South Clinton won the cricket game 8-6, but Oak Ridge Cardinal won the hopper game 8-0, the cutters 14-0 and the peewee contest 20-6.
The five team league will play will play two games every weekend in September and October until the championship games on Nov. 7. The cheerleading championships are scheduled to be held in Rockwood on Nov. 13.
