Wartburg knocks Harriman out of region tourney, 74-55

For the Wartburg Central Lady Bulldogs, it wasn't their easiest win, but the Lady Bulldogs, led by Kellie Kidd's 27 points, managed to pull away in the final period to keep their season alive with a 74-55 win over the Harriman Lady Blue Devils. 

Friday’s loss ends the season for Jim Cordell’s Lady Devils.

Both teams scored nine points at the end of the first period and Wartburg got out to an 11-5 tilt to start the second period, before Harriman closed out the second period on a 15-6 run to take a 29-26 halftime lead. 

Harriman had a 35-29 lead at one point in the third period, but gave up an 11-2 run to the Lady Bulldogs as Wartburg had a 47-43 lead at the end of the third period. 

In the final period, it was all Wartburg as they had an 11-2 run to take a 58-45 lead. The Lady Devils got within 58-51, but Wartburg used a 16-4 surge to end the game with the 74-55 win.

Harriman had a 39-27 advantage on the boards, but lost in team steals, 13-6.

Kidd (27 points, 5 steals, 4 three-pointers), Sarah Davidson (16 points, 5 boards) and Kristie Phillips (12 points) led Wartburg with Madison Laughter (8 points) and Ashley McPeters (6 points, 6 boards, 5 assists) along with Destiney Massengale (6 boards, 6 assists) also playing key roles in the win. 

Harriman was led by Lindsey Higgins (20 points, 15 boards), Olyvia Lunsford (12 points, 4 three-pointers) and Cree Moore (10 points, 14 boards). 

Jadah Gallaher (6 points, 5 boards) also played well in the loss.
