In the first outing of the season between the Wartburg Central Lady Bulldogs and the Rockwood Lady Tigers, the Lady 'Dogs took a sizeable bite out of the Lady Tigers.
This game was more of the same as Wartburg steam rolled to a dominating 55-30 win.
Wartburg came out like gang-busters in the opening period to take an early 14-4 lead.
Rockwood got within 23-17 at one point in the second period, but Wartburg emphatically turned things around to close out the half with a 9-2 swing for a 32-19 lead going to the locker room.
A 15-3 third period put the game well in hand for Wartburg, as they took a 47-22 lead into the final stanza.
Both teams scored eight points in the final period for Wartburg to cruise to the 55-30 win.
Rockwood owned a 29-24 edge on the boards, but an 18-9 tilt in team steals proved to be the damaging blow to Rockwood's victory aspirations.
Kristie Phillips (17 points, 5 steals), Madison Laughter (13 points, 5 boards), Victoria Hamby (10 points, 5 steals), and Bailie Ehlers (6 points) led the Lady 'Dogs in scoring.
Rockwood was led by McKenzie Lee (11 points, 13 boards), and Cheyenne Thompson (6 points).

Once again, the Rockwood Tigers gave their all to try and knock off the Wartburg Central Bulldogs, but once again, the depth of the 'Dogs was too much to overcome as Wartburg left Rockwood with a well-earned 65-55 victory.
Wartburg and Rockwood traded blows in the opening period like Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed, with the 'Dogs taking the early 14-12 lead at the end of the opening period.
After getting within 22-20, Rockwood faltered a bit in the latter stages of the second period when the 'Dogs were let out for a 10-2 run to give them a 32-22 halftime lead.
Rockwood used a 13-6 tilt during a stretch in the third period to get within 38-35, but Wartburg padded their lead a bit to 46-39 going down the stretch.
Wartburg would manage to add three more points to that lead by game's end for the 65-55 win.
Wartburg had a 31-26 edge on the boards and both teams had nine steals.
Alex Fountain (22 points, 9 boards) led the scoring charge for the 'Dogs with cohorts Austin Langley (18 points), and Jesse Dyer (14 points, 16 boards) making key contributions in victory.
Rockwood was led on offense by Jared Breazeale (16 points), Jarrod Neerman (10 points), Malcolm Springs (8 points) and Jay Tilley (6 points).
