William F. “Junior” Headrick, 86, a son given by the Lord to Fred and Emma Headrick, was born in Oakdale on June 15, 1925. He died late Wednesday, April 18, 2012, following a period of declining strength and health.
“Today, we rejoice in the knowledge that he has gone to be with the Lord whom he served faithfully during his life.” He was a Christian and faithful member of White Oak Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon in 1962. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and having fought in combat, including the Battle of the Bulge. He worked hard as a farmer and timber cutter to provide for his family. His normal work day began at 3 a.m. with a time of devotion and prayer. He will always be remembered as a man who loved the Lord, his family and his church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rickie Headrick; his parents, Fred and Emma Headrick; a sister, Elma Grace; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Grace Jr. and Jess Powell.
On April 16, 1949, he was married to his loving and dedicated wife of 63 years, Ruth Jones Headrick, who survives. Surviving along with her are a daughter, Diana Smith; a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Debbie Headrick, Crossville; a daughter, Darlene Headrick; two sons and daughters-in-law, Reggie and Candace Headrick, Oakdale, and Rolland and Kristi Headrick, Oakdale; a sister, Norma Powell; 12 grandsons; three granddaughters; 19 great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 20, in Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in White Oak Baptist Church in Oakdale, with Bro. Danny Jenkins and Bro. Billy Walker officiating. Burial followed at Crab Orchard Cemetery, Oakdale.
