Tennessee Technology Center at Harriman has selected Mary Elaine Wilson as its 2010 Outstanding Student of the Year.

Wilson competed against nine other students at the technology center for the title. She will compete this month against students from the seven other technology centers in East Tennessee in hopes of becoming one of three Eastern Regional finalists.

If chosen as a regional finalist, the Crossville resident and two others will compete against regional finalists from West and Middle Tennessee for 2010 Outstanding Student of the Year for all Tennessee Technology Centers.

In addition to a Dell lap top computer that all regional finalists receive, the grand-prize winner will be awarded a new vehicle and will have the opportunity to promote technical education as the statewide student spokesman or spokeswoman for Tennessee Technology Centers.

Wilson participated in the campus Skills USA competition and was an accomplished representative for the cosmetology department.

She has been a role model to other students. She was able to pursue her career goal of completing cosmetology training and opening her own salon while maintaining the full-time roles of wife and mother of three children.

Wilson is an August 2010 graduate of Tennessee Technology Center of Harriman’s cosmetology program.

She owns and operates a Crossville salon, Bellissimo, where she works as a full-service cosmetologist performing all hair, skin and nail procedures.
