The Knoxville Writers Guild is continuing its series of workshops designed to give information to and provide hands-on assistance for writers interested in self-publishing.
The next workshop is May 18 and will consist of two different sessions.
The first, beginning at 11 a.m., will be a general overview of self-publishing. This portion will cost $20.
The second session of the day, from noon to 2 p.m., will go more in-depth about formatting, uploading projects on several publishing websites and addressing specific questions. It will be $35 for guild members and $40 for the general public.
The final workshop on June 15 will focus on marketing.
This workshop, from noon to 2 p.m., will also be $35 for guild members and $40 for the general public.
All workshops will be in Stone House, Church of the Savior at 934 N. Weisgarber Road.
Self-publishing writers Patricia Gilliam and Daryl Yearwood will lead the two sessions on May 18. Kathy Womack, author of the blog, “Romantic Reading Escapes,” will lead the third.
“For people curious about self-publishing, the first (session on May 18) will help them get started with a good foundation and avoid potential scams,” Gilliam, author of The Hannaria series, said.
Topics scheduled for the second session on May 18 include:
• How to create and upload projects.
• Considerations for formatting for ebooks and paperbacks.
• Choosing book categories and using keywords within the book's product page to drive traffic.
• Quick summary of marketing tools and techniques from authors.
• Specific project questions and answers.
