  • Kingston Rotary sends students to RYLA
  • Seniors canasta group to mark game’s 60th anniversary Nov. 18

    This year commemorates the 60th anniversary of the card game canasta.

    To celebrate, the senior citizens canasta group at Kingston Community Center will have an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 18.  

    Activities for the Kingston celebration will include canasta lessons and demonstrations.

    Refreshments will be served during the event, which is free and geared toward all ages.

  • Rockwood Rotary planning 60th anniversary meeting

    Rockwood Rotary Club is making plans for a meeting to commemorate the club’s 60th anniversary.

    The meeting will start at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 in Victorian Square, Rockwood.

    All former Rockwood Rotarians are invited to attend; reservations are required and may be made by calling either J. Polk Cooley at 354-1432 or Maurice Greif at 354-9857.

    Space is limited; those planning to attend are asked to make reservations early to attend the dinner meeting.

    The Rockwood Rotary Club was chartered  in October 1950.

  • Special Rotary program planned
  • Giant-scale radio-control plane meet this weekend

    The Tennessee Eagles Radio Control Club will have a giant-scale radio-control model airplane meet Sept. 11-12 on the Harriman field.
    The Sunday show will be open flying; everyone, regardless of the size of the plane, will be able to participate.
    Giant-scale planes are required to have a wingspan of 80 inches for monoplanes, 60 inches for biplanes, or be 1/4 scale.
    Admission and parking are free. The show will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

  • Three Rivers Ramblers Square Dance Club

    Three Rivers Ramblers Square Dance Club has a weekly beginning square-dance class from 7 to 9 p.m. each Monday starting Sept. 13.

    Classes will be in Harriman American Legion Hall on Morgan Street.

    The first class is free; subsequent classes will be $4 per class.

    Refreshments will be available.

  • Harriman Music Club

    Harriman Music Club will begin its 101st season on Sept. 16 with a covered-dish picnic at 6 p.m. at the home of George and Margie Wadlington.

    An instrumental ensemble from Roane County High School, under the direction of Zack Williamson, will provide special entertainment.

    In case of rain, the event will be in Redeemer Lutheran Church, Midtown.
