U.S. Navy Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Equipment) Airman Cameron Gaines from Kingston acts as the port safety observer during a barricade drill on the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73).
George Washington and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, provide a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program recently awarded Roane County $9,366 in federal funds to be used to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the area.
The funding is to be distributed through a local board that consists of members representing the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, area churches, a recipient who has benefitted from the services and the Roane County United Way.
Agencies interested in applying for the funds need to contact the Roane County United Way at 882-7711 to receive an application.
