Roane County Commissioners voted unanimously to transfer the land commonly known as the Old Roane County Airport, or the Palm Beach site, from the county to Roane State Community College. The land is a prime site for construction of the college’s livestock pavilion/exposition center.
By Ellen Probert Williamson According to census reports, several million Americans are of Irish descent. But every year in March we all, whatever our own ethnic heritage may be, become enthusiastically Irish. Everything flaunts the color green, and shamrocks become the flower of the month.
St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. Legend has it that the good saint used the trifoliate leaves of the shamrock to illustrate his sermons about the Trinity.
The children and staff of The Henry Center collected more than 200 pounds of canned goods in November and December to donate to a Roane County family and area food banks.
The Southeastern Conference recognized University of Tennessee women’s basketball Coach Pat Summitt in January for her fight to find a cure for Alzheimer’s. To participate in this special event, the children of The Henry Center sang “Rocky Top” and finished it off with a round of “We Back Pat” cheers.

We were happy that the tornado that hit so many places in Tennessee, that we here in Rockwood only had wind and rain.
When the storm warning came, there was a knock on my door. “Come quick,” the aide said, “a tornado is headed our way.” And out the door I went — so did everybody in our building. We headed for the safety of the large underground room.

First Baptist Church Youth Choir, St. Mary’s Baptist Gospel Choir, Braxton’s Chapel Church Choir, Speight Chapel Choir, True Light Baptist Church Choir and Philippi Baptist Church Choir sang with anointing of the Holy Spirit last Sunday evening at Anointed Praise and Worship Church, along with special singing by their youth choir.
This was a great service. Mary Alice Douglas presided over this service. All who went to this service left feeling overly blessed.

• Roane County Commission’s fire board will meet at 6 p.m. in the Qualls Commission Room of Roane County Courthouse, Kingston.
• Rockwood Recreation Board will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. in Rockwood Community Center.
