  • Roane Area Reunions

    Editor’s note: The Roane County News publishes reunions each Monday. Reunion notices should be submitted no later than 3 p.m. Thursday to appear in the following Monday paper.

  • It’s Music and Melons time: Special guests, cool treat planned for this year’s special concert event

    The Babahatchie Community band’s annual Music and Melons concert will begin at 3 p.m. Aug. 14 at Harriman Riverfront Park.

    The Harriman Lions Club is sponsoring the concert and will have plenty of free watermelon available for those in attendance.

    “We have two special things for this concert,” promised Babahatchie member Alison Westrich. “There will be a guest conductor for the concert. Lisa Michaels will be conducting the concert. She is the assistant band director at Loudon High School.”

  • Museum admission’s on the house Saturday

    American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge will offer a free admission day on Aug. 14.

    The special event is National Spirit of ’45 Day, a recognition of men and women who served in the military and those who fought on the home front during World War II.  

  • Medic blood drives planned Aug. 24-25

    Roane Countians who donate blood with Medic Regional Blood Center will not only help their community but protect themselves and their families at the same time.

    “Donors of Medic receive what is called Medic’s Blood Coverage,” said Christi Fightmaster of Medic public relations.

    “This program exempts donors and their IRS dependents from paying blood collection and processing fees if a transfusion is needed.”

  • Alzheimer’s group severs ties with association

    The Eastern Tennessee Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association — which serves Roane County — is returning to its original independent status.

    Organization officials said the move is to ensure that even more area resources support top research and area services for individuals and families struggling with Alzheimer’s disease.

    • Roane County Chamber of Commerce’s August speaker series luncheon will be at Michael Dunn Center, 629 Gallaher Road, Kingston. Mike McElhinney will discuss The Latest and Greatest at Michael Dunn Center. Cost is $12 per person. Reservations are required by Aug. 12 by calling 376-5572.
