Shannon Summer Calloway of Kingston was the 1987 Roane County Poster child for the March of Dimes. The 4-year-old with a perpetual smile is fed through a tube in her stomach and can’t sit up or roll over on her own, although she tries. She was diagnosed with water on the brain and cerebral palsy and has motor skills of a 6- or 7-month old. Her mother, Lisa, thinks Shannon is intelligent. “Maybe the Lord gave her to me as a gift,” Lisa said.
The Rockwood Clothes Closet in Rockwood, a Christian nonprofit charity that helps the needy with free clothing, furniture, household goods and food as available, is in need of assistance from the public.
One of the biggest needs is furniture of all kinds, including beds, couches and chairs, tables and chairs, good clean mattresses.
Other household donations that would be appreciated include pots and pans, dishes, towels and washcloths, sheets, pillow cases, quilts and blankets, baby beds and clothing, small appliances and silverware.
