A U.S. Air Force fighter jet made an emergency belly landing at Rockwood Municipal Airport following an onboard electrical fire which knocked out the navigational and radio equipment. The two crew members were uninjured. The runway was shut down until Tyson Air Force Base officials arrived by helicopter from Knoxville to take over.
The family life, the farm life, the mystery and the vision are revealed in “The Story of John Hendrix: Prophet of Oak Ridge” exhibition opening Nov. 9, the 145th anniversary of the birthday of John Hendrix, at the American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge.
Utilizing family records, oral stories passed down through generations and artifacts related to Hendrix, Jack and Myra Mansfield of Oak Ridge collaborated with the museum to develop the exhibit, which will be on display through Jan. 30, 2011, in the museum lobby.
Tamke-Allan Observatory invites people interested in astronomy to visit the observatory at 7 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 6 for an evening of celestial observing.
Astronomy students will be grilling and selling food/drinks to buy components for our planned mobile solar observatory, a well-equipped trailer that can be pulled to schools and stargazes to support observing and lectures.
Optical and radio telescopes and mobile lecture facilities will be included.
