The city of Harriman’s Memorial Day Parade will be on May 28.
In the event of inclement weather, activities will be at the American Legion.
The event will honor all military veterans who have served to protect the U.S. The Memorial Day parade will extend gratitude to all emergency service workers who have paid the ultimate price while protecting U.S. citizens.
The morning events of the day will begin at 10 a.m., when the Harriman American Legion Museum opens with a display of wartime memorabilia.
Awaken the sense of discovery and see another world that exists just beyond perceptible vision, while viewing the merging of science and art in the 2011 Nikon Small World award-winning photomicrographs June 3-Aug. 7 in the American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge.
This year's winning entries display a number of outstanding images covering a wide range of biological, chemical, and material substances.
In an effort to provide financial education opportunities throughout the community, the Roane Alliance for Financial Independence is offering a free five-part series on helping area residents stretch their dollars.
The classes, at 6 p.m. each Wednesday, start today, May 25, in Kingston First Baptist Church.
The series will cover budgeting, saving, credit reports, homeownership and investments.
The Roane Alliance for Financial Independence is a United Way initiative.

A giant 88,000-pound earth mover with only 540 operating hours on it was purchased for the Roane County landfill. Smart shopping by Roane County Road Supervisor Bob Collier bought the monster for $2,500. The earth mover previously used by the county had half the capacity and more than 20,000 hours of operation.

“Rumors are tearing this town up,” Harriman Mayor Harold Wester declared during a heated Harriman City Council meeting. “People are just looking for a bad rumor.” The meeting’s discussion centered around two former police officers accused of theft. No charges were placed, and Harriman Police Chief Don Day denied any allegations of a cover-up.
