Dog owners who think they have the county’s cutest canine are invited to put their mutt’s mug to the test to raise money for East Tennessee community cancer outreach.
Buddy’s Race Against Cancer Dog Photo Contest allows dog owners to enter their pooch in a competition that raises money for the annual 5k walk and run benefiting Thompson Cancer Survival Center’s cancer outreach services program.
The Roane Rockers, the team representing Roane Medical Center, Harriman, is raising funds through the dog photo contest.
Members of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will accompany the Roane Choral Society in its first concert of the 2011-12 season at 8 p.m. Nov. 19 in South Harriman Baptist Church.
As an inspirational start to the holidays, Concert 1: Gloria, will feature the concert works of famed choral composer John Rutter. Other popular melodies to be performed include “Candlelight Carol,” The Holly and the Ivy” and “O Holy Night.”
Roane County has been awarded $6,506 in federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Programto supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.
The selection was made by a national board chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and consisting of representatives from the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, United Jewish Communities, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA and United Way of America.
