It’s National Library Week, and patrons of Harriman Public Library who have racked up late fees have a reason to celebrate.
In conjunction with the nationwide celebration April 11-16, Harriman Public Library has declared
it Amnesty Week — or a time for
patrons to clear their library
debts.
“This is a special week for you and the library,” said Harriman library director Barbara Pelfrey Milsaps.
“Seeing many career options caused me to think harder about whether the job I want is the one for me.”
That’s what one Roane County High School junior wrote after attending last week’s Career Day at Roane State Community College.
More than 550 juniors from the five Roane County high schools attended the third annual High School Career Day and met with almost 150 representatives from 49 businesses.
The Court Appointed Special Advocate’s next training class will begin on May 3.
The five-week class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday.
This 30-hour nationally certified training class will provide tools and information to prepare individuals to become CASA volunteers for children who are victims of abuse and neglect.

Many are the legends about palm trees.
One says that Jesus commanded a palm tree to bend down so that He could pick dates for His mother, and that He promised in return to bless it, and that when He entered Jerusalem in triumph it would be with a palm branch in His hand as the people cried Hosannah.
Tradition in some countries still says the palm tree — not the apple nor the fig — was the tree of knowledge in the Garden of Eden. And a palm tree is depicted in the state seal of South Carolina.
