The National Park Service welcomes photographers to submit entries for an exhibit at the Obed Wild and Scenic River Visitor Center.
Striking digital images of nature, highlighting the diversity of life in the park, are sought. Images may show wildlife, plant life, natural landscapes, weather or people interacting with nature within Obed Wild and Scenic River.
All photographs, except those submitted as artistic, should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared.
Rockwood Rotary Club is looking for individuals to become club members and join in the civic work the organization does in the community.
Potential members must be at least 21 years old. The organization is open to both men and women.
Civic work that Rockwood Rotary Club is part of includes Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, Boys State, PolioPlus, the annual Roane County Band Festival, a dictionary project in which all third-graders are given a new dictionary, and Rockwood High School’s football awards night.
Planned Pethood, Roane County’s low-cost spay-neuter clinic, will be offering pet vaccinations, including rabies shots Saturday at Tractor Supply’s Pet Appreciation Week event.
A pet adoption drive also will take place featuring Roane County Humane Society, Roane County Animal Shelter, Boston Terrier Rescue, East Tennessee Pekingnese Rescue, Tennessee Alaskan Malamute Rescue and Southern Roots Rescue.
Music, pet washes and other events are planned.
The event will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Rockwood store at 1494 N. Gateway Ave.
Roane County Master Gardeners will have an Aug. 24 workshop on Preservation of the Harvest and Cool Season Gardening.
This is the third workshop in the Sustainable and Edible Landscapes series.
Sessions topics will include food preservation principles and techniques, preventing insects from overwintering in the garden and other key cool-season gardening topics, followed by hands on demonstration of food preservation techniques.
All participants will receive reference materials and preserved items made during the workshop.
Pauline Steelman celebrated her 92nd birthday Wednesday, Aug. 8.
Pauline and Linda Durham are close friends, and Linda took her out for a special lunch.

Three members of St. Mary’s Baptist Church celebrated their birthdays in August. They are Lucille Gordon, Pearl Gallaher and Darius Gallaher.
