Milestones

Shawn Alexander Burney celebrated his third birthday on Nov. 18.

He celebrated on Nov. 16 with a SpongeBob SquarePants-themed party.

He is the son of Melissa and Scott Burney of Harriman.

Grandparents are Linda U. Banks of Harriman and Troy and Annette Burney of Oliver Springs.

Great-grandparents are the late Lola and Melvin Utley, the late Etoy and O.T. McDaniel, and the late Sarah and J.H. Burney.

Shawn has a 4-year-old brother, Brayden Andrew Burney.

Tony and Oneda Whalen of Harriman will be honored this weekend at a reception celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

The event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 in South Harriman Baptist Church’s family life center. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. The couple requests no gifts.

The Whalens graduated from South Harriman High School, where they were high school sweethearts. They married Dec. 29, 1962, in Childs Memorial Baptist Church, Harriman.

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd C. Owings of Rockwood will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend.

Owings and the former Mable Stage were married Dec. 1, 1962, in the parsonage of Kingston’s Four Square Gospel Church, with Marie Broady officiating.

Son of the late Gus and Bessie Herrell Owings, he is  retired from Lockheed Martin in Oak Ridge and is presently employed with Jerry Duncan Ford in Harriman.

Jaycie Brooklynn Mitchell turned 4 on Nov. 13.

She celebrated on Nov. 10 at Roane County Skating Center with lots of family and friends.

She is the daughter of Miranda Mitchell of Rockwood.

Grandparents are Kendall and Joni Mitchell of Rockwood.

Great-grandparents include David and Trisha Mitchell, Jerry Brackett and Cleta Mitchell, all of Kingston, and Peggy Kirk of Rockwood.
