Larry and Debra Gurney of Kingston announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Callie Ann Gurney, to Chance Kendall Harvey.

He is the son of Kevin and Traci Harvey of Kingston.

The ceremony will be on Oct. 3 at Whitestone Country Inn, Kingston.

The prospective groom is active military stationed in South Korea.

Mr. and Mrs. Standford “S.L.” Guffey recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary at home.

Guffey and the former Alice “Billie” Abston were married on Sept. 20, 1953.

Kenneth Ray “Kenny” Abels Sr. of Oliver Springs celebrated his 90th birthday on Sept. 3 with a party given in his honor and attended by many relatives and friends.

He is the son of the late Robert and Nancy Ables, who lived in Rockwood.

He and his wife, Kathleen Daniels Abels, had been married for 45 years when she died in 1991.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he worked as a coal miner in Fork Mountain, Tenn., then at Brushy Mountain Prison. He retired from J.C. Penney Co. in 1984.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cox of Kingston will celebrate their 44th wedding anniversary on Sept. 23 at their home with family.

Cox and the former Betty Murray were married on Sept. 23, 1966, in Riverside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Scarbrough officiating.

He is a retired teacher from the Harriman City school system, and she is a housewife.

Their three children and spouses are Tonya and Randy Peterson of Niota; Sonya and Bryan Miller of Kingston; and Michael Cox of Kingston.
