  • Births: March 1-14

    Babies born at Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge, to Roane County parents:

    March 1 — Brittany Long and Matthew Davis, Oliver Springs. A girl, Payton Alexis Denise, 7 pounds, 6 ounces. Grandparents: Melissa Long; James Crowley; Darlene David; Dolphus Bradshaw.

    March 10 — Casey Daniels and Matthew Blalock, Oliver Springs. A girl, Angel Nevaeh Grace, 7 pounds, 11 ounces.  Grandparents: Lola and Lonnie Blalock; Debbie and Richard Daniels.

  • Denton-Carter

    Charlene and Brad Denton of Lenoir City announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Andrea Danielle Denton, to Justin Andrew Carter.

    He is the son of Donald D. Carter and Sherry B. Carter of Rockwood.

    The ceremony will be at 4 p.m. May 21 in Morrison Hill Christian Church, Kingston. A reception will follow in the Masonic Hall on Spring Street, Kingston.

    Invitations will be sent, but all relatives and friends of the couple are invited to attend.

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Ada Jenkins.

  • Mr & Mrs. Nelson 50th

    Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nelson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on April 22.

    Nelson and the former Brenda Adkisson were married on April 22, 1961, in Oliver Springs.

    He is retired from K-25 Site in Oak Ridge, and she is retired from Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge.

    The couple has a daughter, Lesa McFarland, and a son-in-law, Randy McFarland of Oak Ridge.

    There are two grandchildren, Sam and Evan McFarland.

  • Gathering to mark 90th

    William Thomas “Bill Tom” Ferguson turns 90 years old today, April 13.

    His birthday will be celebrated with a gathering at 2 p.m. April 16 at his home at 211 Ferguson Lane, Kingston.

    No invitations are being sent, but all relatives and friends — especially any World War II veterans — are invited to attend. The family requests birthday cards only.

    Ferguson grew up on a farm, and his family said he still thinks he needs to work from daylight to dark.

    He enjoys music and loves to dance.

  • Melhorn celebrates birthday

    Brenda Melhorn of Rockwood celebrated her 60th birthday on March 27 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wartburg, with more than 100 family members and friends.

    She is the daughter of the late Walter and Elsie Melhorn.

    Melhorn has Downs syndrome and lives a good life, thanks to her family and friends, and the love and kindness of friends at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Glen Alice Christian Church and Post Oak Springs Christian Church.

  • Christopher Jayden Lee Howard

    Christopher Jayden Lee Howard turned 1 year old on April 1.

    He celebrated on April 2 with a Toy Story-themed party with relatives and friends at Roane County Park.

    He is the son of Jessica Thomas and Jason Howard of Harriman.

    Grandparents are Danny and Susan Thomas of Harriman and Donna Howard of Lenoir City.

    Great-grandparents are Mary Hilton of Rockwood, James and Darene Jones of Harriman, Frankie Howard of Rockwood and the late Norville E. “Bud” Howard.

  • Mr. & Mrs. Matera

    Christopher Matera and Lauretta “Laurie” Lee Martin Matera of Kingston had the official wedding convalidation of their marriage on March 5.

    The preparation leading up to the Materas’ Catholic convalidation was overseen by Father Michael Sweeney, pastor of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Harriman. Father Leo Edgerly pastor of Corpus Christi Parish in Oakland, Calif., officiated at the ceremony.

  • Mr & Mrs. Charles 50th

    Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Charles will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on April 1.

    They will celebrate with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. April 10 in Lakeview Baptist Church fellowship building, Harriman.

    Charles and the former Carolyn Courtney were married on April 1, 1961, in Harriman, with the Rev. H.M. James officiating.

  • Maggie Rose Richardson

    Maggie Rose Richardson celebrated her third birthday on March 8 with a Cinderella Princess-themed party with relatives and friends.

    She is the daughter of Cliff and Shauna Richardson of North Carolina.

    Grandparents are Jack and Diane Woolum of Kingston, Jerry Richardson of New York and Michael and Kay Griffith of Mount Airy, N.C.

    Great-grandparents are Anita Mosley of North Carolina, the late J.D. and Mabel Waldrop, and the late Otis and Bessie Richardson.

  • Payton Madox ‘Max’ Richardson

    Payton Madox “Max” Richardson celebrated his fifth birthday on March 8 with a Thomas the Tank Engine party with relatives and friends.
