  • Willie Finch celebrates 100th birthday

    Willie Penix Finch celebrated her 100th birthday on July 31.

    The Finch family had a party/reunion in her honor on Aug. 4 in Oak Ridge Community Center.

    About 40 relatives and friends turned out to extend happy birthday wishes.

    Born Willie Edith Penix on July 31, 1912, she is originally from Lexington in West Tennessee. Her family farmed on a 160-acre plot, and she played high school basketball.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Jordan Williams

    Jennifer Smith of Harriman and Jordan Williams of Oakdale were married on Aug. 4 in the Suddath House, Harriman. Robert Lamance officiated.

    The bride is the daughter of Ketta Smith of Harriman and the late Lee Smith.

    The groom is the son of Paul and Donna Williams of Oakdale.

  • LaSuer-Woodcock

    Beth McConnell of Kingston and Jerry LaSuer III of Birmingham, Ala., announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Mattye Caroline LaSuer, to Matthew Lee Woodcock.

    He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Causey and the late Lee Woodcock of Glennville, Ga.

    The ceremony will be on Nov. 3 in St. Simons Island, Ga.

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.T. Houser of Kingston, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Jerry LaSuer II of Birmingham.

    Liam Smith turned 4 years old on May 27. He celebrated with a pool
    party with family and friends.

    He is the son of Will and Kristy Smith of Harriman.

    Grandparents are Steve and Mona Bolden of Harriman, and Diana Smith of Oakdale.

    Great-grandparents are Mary Oran of Harriman and Ruth Headrick of Oakdale.

    Liam has a 5-year-old sister, Taylor.

  • Mr & Mrs. Johnston 50th

    Mr. and Mrs. Paul Johnston will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 11.

    A cake and punch open house in their honor will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Johnstons’ home at 106 S. Church Ave., Rockwood. Best wishes only; the couple requests no gifts.

    Johnston and the former Betty Neal were married in Rockwood in 1962.

  • Berlie Rayaunna Shaine Clabough

    Berlie Rayaunna Shaine Clabough was born at 11:08 p.m. July 7 in Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville.

    She weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 21 inches long.

    She is the daughter of Emily Duncan and Neil Clabough.

    Grandparents are Kim Parris Lively of Rockwood, Barbara Gaskin of Wartburg and the late Ray Clabough.

    Great-grandparents are Homer and Peggy Parris of Kingston.

  • Zirkle turns 95

    Joseph Zirkle, a long-time resident of Kingston, reached his milestone 95th birthday July 17.

    Known as Joe to many, he was born the seventh child in the seventh month in 1917 to George and Clara Zirkle.

    A graduate of Tusculum College, Zirkle and Jessie Craw were married in 1939 in New Orleans, where they lived for four years while he was employed by Aetna Insurance.

    When the country entered World War II, Zirkle answered his country’s call to service and joined the U.S. Navy.
